About Us

Since the early days of Walt Disney, cartoon animation has captured the imagination of people young and old. With its ability to transform dreams into reality, it is a universally understood language which transcends cultural barriers and provides entertainment for people all over the world.

With the advent of computer technology the animation film industry has moved into a whole new realm of dream making; through the stunning special effects employed in many new films to interactive animation on the internet, a revolution has taken place. A whole new generation of filmmakers have discovered the wonders of animation.

The enthusiasm and support for an animation film festival in Exeter was first unearthed during a feasibility study undertaken by Exeter City Council in 1998. Animated Exeter was launched in 2000 and has developed and expanded year on year.

Jayne Pilling, the festival’s animation film programming consultant, has carefully developed the mix of feature films for children and young adults from around the world with the best of international short animation films, which ensures a local and enthusiastic family audience.

The emphasis on in-depth workshops and master classes for a wide range of ages and abilities, including opportunities for students and professionals to hone their skills, has established a reputation for Animated Exeter as one of the most exciting and innovative animation festivals in UK.
