Welcome to Animated Exeter

The highlight of Animated Exeter 2003 was the UK premiere of The Folimage Adventure from France. This exhibition of over 400 documents included scripts, storyboards, original drawings, sets, models, puppets and photographs, and provided a unique and inspirational insight into the work of award winning animators. A superb retrospective screening of Folimage Studio films were also screened and Oscar winning animation film director, Michael Dudok de Wit both opened the exhibition and introduced the films.

Other films included the delightful Italian children’s feature, Lucky and Zorba, for older young people Mercano the Martian from Argentina and the Taiwanese Grandma and her Ghosts. The international short film programme's continue to attract an enthusiastic audience.

Other festival favourites included an exhibition from Cosgrove Hall Films, creators of cult classics such as Dangermouse, Jamie and the Magic Torch, and Count Duckula. And the legendary Tony Hart delighted an audience of all ages in a sell out presentation.

The Careers Day provided an ideal opportunity to find out more. Representatives from some of the country’s top animation training courses appeared alongside professionals from the animation industry, talking about the state of the industry today, leading to an electrifying debate that thrilled the packed out audience.

Animated Exeter would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in the 2003 festival. The festival was an enormous success, attracting over 4,500 participating children, young people and adults to the schools competitions, workshops, screenings and events. An estimated 40,000 also enjoyed the exhibitions at the following venues: Exeter Picture House, Phoenix Arts Centre, Spacex Gallery, Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Thelma Hulbert Gallery and Exeter Central Library.
