Tickets are already selling fast for workshops. During the festival Animated Exeter is running ToonBoom workshops using this popular 2D software suitable for all levels, from Flip Boom for young children, to ToonBoom Studio for teens and Harmony at the professional level.
Modelmaking workshops are one of the features of the 2012 festival: we're lucky to have found Gill Bliss who can deliver a unique character modelling workshop, showing you how to transform your 2D character drawings into 3D models; a sculpting masterclass from puppet-maker and doll artist Wendy Froud (The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth) and a stop motion modelmaking workshop with Julia Roberts.
To book your tickets go to the Box Office, or call Exeter Phoenix on 01392 667080. For events at the Exeter Picturehouse please book through their box office on 0871 902 5730.

Animated Exeter Education
There are still places for Animation Exploration for the Animated Exeter Schools week from 6th - 10th of February 2012. Check out the Film Screenings for schools as well.
Forkbeard Fantasy Projection
The first tests have been carried out on Cathedral Green for Forkbeard's stupendous projection. The team spent a few hours in the dark, cold, wind and pouring rain testing images with the projector. This will transform not only the cathedral itself but the surrounding shops and restaurants.
Opportunities for Volunteers
Animated Exeter has always welcomed volunteers to come and join in the fun of the festival and learn. We can offer work in the workshops, exhibitions, film screenings and the amazing amount of events we hold. Please check out the website for the Volunteers Application Form. Meeting an MP and talking about the future of Animation
One of our team, Sara Squire, had the opportunity to meet with Dan Jarvis, the Labour Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. He was interested in the future of animation in the UK. This is what Dan wrote in his blog:
"Animated Exeter, is the leading festival for animation in the South West. It has provided young people in Exeter with a fantastic base to learn new skills, whether aged three or twenty three, any young person can use the festival to develop first-class animation skills.
Animation is increasingly under threat in this country as business climates elsewhere in the world become more competitive. British icons such as Bob the Builder, Shaun the Sheep and Peppa Pig are leaving, or contemplating doing so. Animated Exeter gives those young people the platform they need to succeed in the Industry, and it is the Government's job to ensure that Britain remains a world leader and the jobs are available."
That's it from the Animated Exeter team in 2011. Have a fantastic Christmas and a wonderful New Year, and we look forward to meeting you all once again in 2012.
